Young Coleraine woman elected to NIYF Committee

A young Coleraine woman has been elected to the new Northern Ireland Youth Forum (NIYF) Executive Committee.

Anna Connor was one of 17 candidates selected from an original group of 46 to work towards implementing the NIYF’s new ‘vision 2020’ strategy which will see the next generation having more influence over the political process.

Anna, 19, is studying politics at the University of Ulster and has a keen interest in international politics, gender equality and human rights. She was a member of the previous NIYF Executive Committee.

She said: “I would highly recommend getting involved in the Northern Ireland Youth Forum. It is a great platform to advocate for the rights of young people. As an executive member I will hope to lobby particularly for marriage equality, increased representation of women in politics and advocate for robust mental health provision for young people in Northern Ireland.”

NIYF Director Chris Quinn said the election marked a new era for the organisation: ““We had an unprecedented number of young people standing this year - a total of 46.”
