The court heard that Jake Brown (20), Derramore Gardens, was apprehended by police when they stopped a car which turned off the Ballyronan Road into a laneway on May 19.

A PPS lawyer said there were five males travelling in the car and there was a strong smell of cannabis in the vehicle.

She said the occupants appeared nervous and paper was scattered throughout the vehicle. The prosecutor said officers noticed grains of what appeared to be cannabis on the tracksuit of the defendant.

The lawyer added that Brown later produced a small bag containing cannabis valued at about £20. He made a full admission to police.

An order was made by the court for the destruction of the cannabis.
