Young man fighting for his life after Maghera crash

A young south Derry man is fighting for his life following Sunday night’s car crash on the outskirts of Maghera.

The 22-year-old man was seriously hurt in the two-vehicle collision at Coleraine Road shortly before 10pm.

It is believed he was a passenger in the car he was travelling in.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he remains in a critical condition.

Four other people injured in the crash were taken to Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.

The Coleraine Road was closed to traffic on Monday while police carried out an examination of the accident scene but has since re-opened.

Mid-Ulster SDLP councillor Martin Kearney offered his best wishes to the injured man, who is believed to be from the Maghera area.

He singled out for praise medical teams who attended the scene of the accident on Sunday night and rendered assistance to the injured people.
