Young mum left 'traumatised'by bus incident

A YOUNG mother said she was left 'traumatised' after an encounter with a bus driver in the town.

The woman was driving with her four-month-old daughter, she said she was stopped at the red lights beside St Paul's Church when a bus started flashing its lights and sounding its horn.

"I didn't know what was going on, at first I thought there was something wrong with my car.

"But there was nothing, I moved off and the bus was still flashing its lights and horn, I went to head down Millennium Way to get away from him but the lights went red again.

"He was right up against the back of my car and still on the horn and lights - I had no idea what was going on or why.

"It was scary, because I had my baby daughter in the front seat and was very worried for our safety."

The woman parked in Tesco's car park and walked up to the bus stops on Market Street with her four-month-old child.

She continued: "I went onto one of the buses and asked the driver if he was the one behind me and it just set him off.

"He just started shouting at me - in front of the other passengers - about how I should not be on the road and he was going to take me to the police, but I refused to go anywhere with him.

"He got me so upset that I was crying and trying to talk to him at the same time - so I was like shouting at him to try and get my point across.

"He actually got off the bus and went to the police station, leaving all the passengers just sitting there."

The mother-of-three was left traumatised and distraught following the encounter.

She went on: "I went to the police station and they said a complaint had been made and officers had gone to my house.

"I could not believe it, I had no idea what I had done and neither had the police, but they said they had to follow up on all complaints.

"They were very nice and saw that I was obviously very upset."

The woman said she had contacted Ulsterbus to complain about the driver.

She went on: "I'll never forget his face, or how he shouted at me - and I still don't know what I did to upset him so much.

"But I know that he should not have behaved the way he did no matter what it was.

"He has knocked my confidence on the road and I have been trying to avoid the bus route because of the incident.

"I just hope that the driver is not in charge of a school run, if he can't control his temper."

The police have said a report was made by a bus driver who said a woman 'cut him up' and 'angrily' boarded the bus.

A spokeswoman for Translink said they were aware of the incident and two complaints had been made and the company was conducting an internal investigation.
