Young people conquer castle challenge at unique event

Organised by the Council’s Sports Development Unit this innovative morning allowed the young people to race through an assault course.

Councillor Alan Carlisle, Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, who attended the event, said: “It was great to see so many young people from across the Lisburn area participate in this first of its kind event in scenic Castle Gardens.

“The obstacle course which included a water slide was across both the lower and upper parts of Castle Gardens; and everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed the day.

“Across the age groups there were a total of ten races and each young person received a certificate and a medal for taking part.

“The cheers of encouragement from the young people as their team members raced against the clock to win their heat was fantastic to hear.

“The winners on the day also received a family pass to the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex to enjoy a session in the Leisure Pool. On behalf of the Council I would like to thank those parents who sent their children to this new initiative and I hope that next year’s event will be an even bigger success.

“May I also thank the volunteers from the University of Ulster and Volunteer Now who helped the Council Officers and Active Community Coaches marshal the event,” he concluded.

Lisburn City Council plans to arrange a similar event next year and will be working on increasing its links with voluntary organisations such as Volunteer Now throughout the year ahead.
