Young people help to tidy-up

A group of young people in Greenisland got to grips with rubbish in their area in March 1980.

The leader of Knockagh Youth Club, Mrs Alma Melville organised a clean-up around the Patterson Hall.

Groups taking part included the Robbins, Rangers, Brownies and the Girl Guides.

The young people gave up most of their day to help with the clean-up.

More than 20 bags of rubbish were collected.

The team also cleaned the river running at the back of the hall and trimmed overhanging branches.

Around 25 people helped out in the cleaning event.

They were aged between 10 and 17.

The council’s cleansing department collected all the rubbish to dispose of.
