Young people put their gifts on show

TEN trainees from Action Mental Health Vote have been developing their business skills by taking part in the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland Team programme.

The orgnaisation provides training and support for young people with a learning disability living in Banbridge and Craigavon. The group came up with the company name “Gifted”, to signify each member’s use of their unique talents and skills to make and sell the giftware.

The programme aims to help students understand the world of work and business and has given the Vote team an opportunity to learn how to work as a team, deal with money, communicate, interview techniques and confidence building.

In December the Vote team visited the Outlet where they sold a selection of hand-made products including Christmas Logs, cards and holly bunches. The team were presented with an award for “Best Product”.

And more recently, on the run-up to Valentine’s Day, Gifted created and sold a new selection of handmade products including “flower love pots”, love pebbles and Valentine’s cards at Rushmere Shopping centre.

Gifted are now putting together their business plan report in the next stage of the Young Enterprise NI programme and will then attend the 2011 Team Programme Regional Competition Interview Day on Monday March 14 in Moy Park, Craigavon.

A winner will be selected for the Southern Regional Board at the NI Graduation Event which takes place on April 6.

If you think AMH Vote could assist a young person (age 16 – 25) with a learning disability, then please get in touch to arrange a meeting so that we can discuss how the service could be of benefit.
