Young people 'Rock It Out Together' in music

NEW music workshops led by Making Music Workshop are set to take place in Banbridge Youth Centre in Hill Street.

Entitled ‘Rock It Out Together’, the project will be supported by professional musicians and are aimed at giving young people a voice by writing songs about themselves, their communities, as well as controversial issues such as sectarianism, racism, poverty and flags and emblems.

Youth groups from within the PEACE III Southern Cluster will be involved and the project is part-funded through the EU’s PEACE III Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The participants will take an active role in managing the project at a local level, discussing and agreeing issues and writing these into lyrics which will become an integral part of their own songs to be recorded onto CD.

“The process will not require the participants to have any musical ability, as the young people will work together with musicians who will help them write lyrics on a range of topics,” said a spokesperson for the project. “The musicians will carry the pressure of writing and performing the music for the participants in the style chosen by them.

“The engineer will then record the finished product onto CD, edit it and put the tracks on a six-track album which will be presented to the particpants at the end of the project.”
