Young pupil struck by car

A four-year-old boy is recovering after being knocked down on the way to Pond Park Nursery School last Friday morning.

Callum Donald was involved in the accident on the Ballymacash Road as he went to school with his parents.

Callum was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he spent four hours in surgery. He has pins in his leg and his ankle; however, he was released from hospital on Tuesday.

Mrs Lois Wilson, Principal of Pond Park Nursery School said: “We are so thankful, that whilst the injuries have been traumatic for the family, they weren’t worse, and we are looking forward to having Callum back in school.

“It is so early in the term for him to be out of school and we hope he can come back again, even for a short while each day until he recovers.

“He is a lovely wee boy and has settled in so well, we can’t wait to have him back again.”

Callum’s grandfather Wilson Donald praised the Ambulance Service for their quick response. “The ambulance was there within four minutes, I have high praise for them.”
