Young reporters claim national titles

St Patrick's Academy Year 11 pupil Karyn Keery was a National Winner in the 2015 Northern Ireland  Young Reporter for the Environment Competition.

Year 11 students Karyn Keery and Niamh Mc Millan who have both been awarded National Winners prizes for their entries in the Northern Ireland Young Reporter for the Environment Competition 2015.

Karyn’s entry was selected as NI’s National Winner in the Age 11-14 Article Writing category and Niamh’s entry was selected as Northern Ireland’s National Winner in the Age 15-18 Article Writing category.

Their talents could now go on to be tested on the international stage as both pupils were highly praised for their fantastic competition entries by the judges and encouraged to enter the International Young Reporter Competition.

Luke Mulholland, Year 11, was also highly commended for his entry and narrowly missed out on a place at international level.

Young Reporters for the Environment is a network of youth engaged in environmental journalism and Education for Sustainable Development.

It is coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and operates in more than 25 countries.

Young Reporters, aged between 11 and 21, investigate environmental issues and problems and propose solutions through investigative reporting, photographic or video journalism.

St patrick’s Academy wish both Karyn and Niamh well for the next stage of the competition.
