Young Seapatrick side can be proud of their performance

Bourneview 2

Seapatrick 1

AFTER an opening day defeat to league favourites Dollingstown, Seapatrick were on their travels across to Pepperton Park to play Bourneview.

The visitors started brightly and Clifford Sands was unlucky as he headed wide in the fourth minute. The game seemed to go from end to end and Stuarty Cinnamon was unlucky as he saw his volley saved by the keeper.

Seapatrick's goal came courtesy of a great free kick. Damien McParland caught the ball sweetly and it nestled into the bottom corner.

Seapatrick pressed yet again and Aaron McAvoy volleyed over at the back post. Both teams had penalty shouts turned down, as Bourneview pressed for an equalizer and Seapatrick tried for a second goal.

Seapatrick were dealt a cruel blow on the stroke of half time. A corner was floated to the back post, Marty Buchanan looked as if he was impeded and Mark Boyce headed home.

The second half started much the same as the first with both teams fighting for every scrap. Bourneview were unlucky not to take the lead when their centre forward sprung the offside trap. As he raced clear he blasted an effort towards the bottom corner but keeper Fletcher was focused and saved with his feet.

Clifford Sands had a great chance for a Seapatrick second. Stuart Cinnamon weaved his way into the box and as he unselfishly released Sands he screwed his effort wide when well placed.

As time ticked away a free kick was awarded to Seapatrick just outside the box. Up stepped a confident Darren Brooker and as he curled his effort to the top corner the ball crashed of the crossbar with the keeper beaten.

Seapatrick were to be denied a point in the last minute. A cross came into the Seapatrick box, keeper Fletcher was held and as Ernie Buchanan cleared the ball it bounced of the back of Aaron Gallagher and into the net. Seapatrick protested but the referee gave the goal. A very harsh blow to The Village.

Seapatrick's young side can be very proud of their performance. They battled hard throughout and the disappintment was there to be seen in the changing room after the game. Team spirit is excellent and the players attitude has been brilliant.
