Kieran McAtamney and son Gordon were awarded the prestigious ‘Chevalier’ accolade at a ceremony this week at their Greenvale Street premises.

The honour was conferred by the ‘Commanderie des fin Goustiers du Duch’e d’ Alencon Confrerie de Gastronomie Normande’. They had granted a Gold Cup award to Kieran and Gordy for their ‘Pork and Sweet Chilli with red Onion’ sausages.

The Normandy-based group is dedicated to the promotion and recognition of the highest quality gourmet meat products from across Europe. Each year it stages a huge competition to find the best Europe has to offer and the McAtamney’s entry aboslutely wowed the French food fanatics.

“They came along to the shop this week and to be honest they were amazed at the variety of produts we offer. It really is an honour to be so highly rated by these people - after all, they say France is the birthplace of the best cuisine!” said Kieran.

After the ceremony which delighted local onlookers, the French visitors were hosted by the Mayor, Cllr. Billy Ashe, at a special dinner at Ballymena Town Hall.
