'YOU'RE NOT WELCOME IN GLENVARNA'

RESIDENTS of Glenvarna have been left "shocked and angry" following the discovery of an incendiary bomb in the estate last week, according to a local councillor.

The bomb, described by Army Technical Officers as "a viable incendiary type device", was uncovered when police officers carried out a search operation at a house in Glenvarna Drive on Wednesday (June 23).

A number of neighbouring properties were evacuated during the alert and several people were moved to Ballyhenry Presbyterian Church Hall, but were able to return to their homes a few hours later.

The incendiary device is thought to have contained a pipe-bomb and two litres of flammable liquid. It is understood that two balaclavas were also seized during the search of the house, which is close to Ballyhenry Primary School.

On Tuesday, a PSNI spokesperson confirmed that a woman was arrested in connection with the incident, but has since been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

DUP representative Robert Hill, who lives in the area, said that residents in the estate are angry that people's lives had been put in danger.
