‘You’re ready for summer’

Minister for Social Development, Nelson McCausland, has visited Ballycastle to view the impact of the completed £250,000 revitalisation scheme in the Castle Street and Clare Street areas of the town.

Minister McCausland said: “I was very impressed to see the work that has been carried out during my tour of Castle Street and Clare Street.

“Ballycastle has a unique setting on the North Coast and I believe that this revitalisation scheme has improved the vitality of the area and will encourage more people to visit and shop in Ballycastle,” he added.

Cllr Donal Cunningham, Chairman of Revitalise Steering Group said: “The targeted areas of Castle Street and Clare Street, Ballycastle, have undergone a true transformation since receiving Revitalise funding in 2013.

“The project was completed in March 2014 with 98% of the eligible properties addressed.

“The area had become dilapidated but as a result of the funds invested it has since recovered its vibrancy and enthusiasm, footfall has increased to the area and vacancy rates have decreased which shows the true economic value of the project.

“I would like to thank the Department for their investment and commitment to regenerating our town centres.”

A total of 43 out of 44 properties benefited from the revitalise scheme in the Castle Street/Clare Street areas of the town.

Ten properties benefitted from funding in North Street. Improvements have included painting of properties, new shop-fronts and new signage. The Department also provided £250,000 for the Revitalise Scheme and £15,750 towards to Giro d’Italia improvements from the 2013/14 capital budget.
