The Glenville Park resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour since the containers, which house materials for a maintenance project at Abbeyglen Park, were placed in the area by contractors working on behalf of the Housing Executive.

The concerned resident said: “Since the boxes were placed in Glenville Park, there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour, with young people gathering round the containers, as well as climbing on top of them and throwing debris about the street.

“I’ve contacted the police twice this month to report similar anti-social incidents. The Housing Executive have informed me that they intend to place fencing around the containers, while police patrols are meant to be giving the area passing attention. Fingers crossed these measures fix the problem.”

Commenting on the issue, a Housing Executive spokesperson said: “We can confirm the Housing Executive is carrying out work in Abbeyglen Park. Following a report of anti-social behaviour we immediately contacted the contractor and have requested the site containers be fenced in. Community wardens will also be in the area at the weekend.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “A report of youths throwing rubbish into the street in the Glenville Park area was made at approximately 8pm on Saturday, September 17. When police attended the scene, no youths were found to be in the area at that time.”
