Youths escape with warnings for sex offences and GBH

THE PSNI let almost 100 children off with warnings or cautions for a variety of offences including causing serious injury and sexual offences over the past two years.

Ninety-nine youths aged under 16 received informed warnings or cautions over the two years, police revealed.

Notably, two of the youths were not prosecuted for assaults causing grievious bodily harm whilst a further two were not prosecuted for sexual assault offences.

Furthermore, fifty-eight got off lightly for burglary whilst fifty were warned about assaults occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police released details of the amount of informed warnings and cautions issued to NI youths under 16 in 2010 and 2011 in response to a Freedom of Information release.
