ZAP backing OrphanCentre in Malawi

A new Orphan Support Centre will be built over the next six months at Chipalawe, near Zomba, in Malawi, it’s been revealed.

The Centre will serve the educational, play and food needs of approximately 100 orphaned and other vulnerable children.

The Kilrea ‘Get Up and Go’ Walking Club held a Bingo night to raise£2,000 for the centre.

The Chair of the Zomba Action Project (ZAP), Reverend Terry McMullan, told The Coleaine Times this week: “The support given by the ‘Get Up and Go’ Walking Club will be put to good use in this project.

“It is particularly heartening because a group of volunteers from Kilrea plan to go out to Zomba next year, at their own expense, to work on the final stages of the building work; they will hand the completed project over to the village representatives at the end of their working visit.

“The Zomba Action Project is very appreciative of how supportive Monica McGuigan, Margaret Mullan and the Get Up and Go Walking Club have been over the years.”

These are some of the 100 children who will benefit from the purpose built centre when it is completed in 2016.

Thanks to all who contributed to the fundraising.
