Zomba fundraising walk and barbecue a huge success

THE annual fundraising walk and barbecue for the Zomba Action Project took place at Glenullin last Tuesday.

The event, organised by Coleraine Borough Council in conjunction with Jon Mitchel’s GAC Glenullin and the Kilrea based “Get Up and Go” Walking Club attracted an impressive turnout.

Despite unfavourable weather conditions over 65 people took part and dressed in weather proof clothes all embraced the hill challenge, an impressive three mile hill walk around Drumbane Hill.

Afterwards, participants were treated to a delicious barbecue kindly organised and provided by the ladies from “Get Up and Go” Walking Club and Arbutus Restaurant in Kilrea.

Traditional music was enjoyed afterwards at Jon Mitchel’s GAC club which saw over 275 in attendance. The event was free of charge with donations accepted for “just give” Zomba Action Project. An overall incredible sum of £2,500 was raised in total.

Council’s Countryside and Marine Manager, Mark Strong said: “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all those hearty soles that attended the walk and showed their support despite the weather being wet and dismal, all of whom contributed to raising money for a very worthy cause in Malawi.”
