Canine club raises £2600 for charity in three hours

Back in June, members held a barbecue and vintage vehicle display near Cloughmills and raised a staggering £2260 in three hours.

The money came solely from donations from members and friends of the club who have been staging the event for the past four years.

A number of charities have benefitted from the efforts of the Canine Club including Macmillan Cancer care, the Children’s Ward at the Victoria Hospital in Belfast and, on this and the first occasion, Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Last Tuesday night at the monthly get together of the Canine Club in the Social Centre, Ballymoney, a cheque for the amount was handed over to Mr. Paul McCusker, a volunteer for the charity who expressed his delight at the substantial contribution.

The barbecue and vintage display was held at the home of William and Amanda Dobbin who have opened up their spacious property to enable the event to be held.

It has always proved both an enjoyable social occasion as well as fulfilling a vital role in providing funds for charities.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Dobbin praised all who had made the evening a success and said all involved had greatly appreciated the generous donations.

His words were echoed by Mr. McCusker who described Marie Curie as a very worthwhile charity and went on to say that the amount collected was magnificent.

“Marie Curie will be delighted with this donation and I want to thank everyone especially William and Amanda who hosted the night,” he added.
