Top accolade for young golfer Annabel

An Aghalee golfer has landed on the fairway as one of five of Northern Ireland’s most promising young athletes to be part of the 2014/2015 Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy.

The athletes, who will each receive a £1,000 bursary to help towards their career, as well as gaining access to a unique professional development masterclass, have been confirmed as Annabel Wilson (13 years old) from Aghalee, Lisburn gymnast Casey Jo Bell (14 years old), tennis player Peter Bothwell from Hillsborough (18 years old), Belfast hurdler Megan Marrs (17 years old) and hockey player Ian Sloan from Stewartstown (20 years old).

Following a competitive application process year on year, the Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy, in partnership with the Mary Peters Trust, selects five of the top rising sports stars, who require assistance to develop their career internationally.

As well as the welcomed financial support, each of the five athletes will participate in The Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy Masterclass in early 2015, through which they will meet and learn from the insights and experience of experts from the fields of professional sports, health and nutrition, sports psychology and media relations.

The athletes will also visit primary schools across Northern Ireland Dale Farm School Sports Day Programme to inspire upcoming little athletes, as part of Dale Farm’s commitment to encouraging active lifestyles at a young age.

Annabel played on the Irish team of three for the World Under-18 Championships in Canada in September this year and is the current Irish, Ulster and Leinster Girls’ Open Champion.

In 2015, Annabel hopes to be selected for the Junior Solheim and Vagliano Teams and is likely to be offered to play in a Ladies European Tour 
Event.
