Seeley, Hamilton, Irwin and Reid set for Sunflower Trophy

The end-of-season Sunflower Trophy meeting takes place this weekend at Bishopscourt and local riders Alastair Seeley, Glenn Irwin, Andy Reid and Jamie Hamilton top the entry list for what promises to be an exciting race programme.

Both Seeley on the Mar-Train Yamaha and Irwin on the Gearlink Kawasaki have been battling for British Supersport honours all season and the Sunflower sees their rivalry continue in front of their home fans.

Although they are the main men in the class, add in Hamilton on Wilson Craig’s Honda, Irwin’s team-mate Luke Hedger, Karl Phillips, Robert Kennedy, Jamie Patterson, Christian Elkin and winner at Bishopscourt last time out, Nikki Coates, and it will be extremely competitive at the front.

In the feature race, it could easily be a supersport machine that comes out on top with either Seeley or Irwin lifting the famous trophy.

On the other hand, if Jordanstown’s Andy Reid gels with the Milwaukee Yamaha superbike, he could throw a spanner in the works. Also on superbikes will be Mar-Train Yamaha’s Dean Harrison, Jamie Patterson on the Bathams BMW, Ben Wilson on the Gearlink Kawasaki, newly-crowned Danny Buchan, Gary Mason, Hamilton on the Wilson Craig Honda and South African James Egan on a MWR Kawasaki.

Last year’s Irish Superbike Champion Nico Mawhinney has made a successful move to the British Thundersport Class this year and he will compete on the Seadrift Offshore Racing Kawasaki.

Entry for spectators is £20 for the weekend or £15 for Saturday race day. Entry includes an official souvenir programme.
