“There’s a young fella called Ryan Campbell who plays for the local rugby team. Over the years visiting Loch Lomond he’s become good friends with Cameron and his cousin Josh Sands.

“There was a rugby tournament taking place on Saturday (August 8) and Loch Lomond were a couple of players short.

“The two boys didn’t take much persuading. Obviously they’d none of their gear with them so they had to borrow all the kit from the club.”

Josh (19), who has family ties to Lurgan and Moira, lives in Worcestershire where he plays for Evesham Rugby Club. Cameron, who is from Irwin Avenue in Lurgan, plays for Portadown Under 18s.

Nigel continued: “It was a tens tournament at Clydebank Rugby Club with 10 or 12 teams in it. It was totally unplanned but turned into a great afternoon’s entertainment.

“It was probably the best day of the holiday. The sun was shining and all the family went along to watch.

“Cameron scored one try and Josh scored two. Afterwards they met one of the players from Glasgow Warriors and got to see the Six Nations trophy.

“Cameron had always waned to play in the same team as his cousin but didn’t think it would happen like this. It was great that all three of the boys got to play in the same team.”
