Police probe report of attempted child abduction

POLICE are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction in the Whiteabbey area on Monday evening (October 2).

An eight-year-old boy reported being approached by a man in a dark coloured car in the King’s Walk area of Fernagh at around 7.50pm.

It’s understood the man told the boy he had lots of money and asked him is he wanted to go bowling with him. The child ran away and the man drove off.

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000.

Meanwhile, the PSNI’s Neighbourhood Policing Teams have stepped up patrols around schools in the area in the wake of reports of suspicious approaches to children. Officers have also been visiting primary schools to deliver the ‘Stranger Danger’ talk to pupils.
