First defeat of the season for Scarva Rangers

SCARVA Rangers suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday.

The village side were left to rue a series of missed chances and a dreadfully lethargic start to their league clash with Armagh Celtic.

The visitors found themselves trailing by two goals at the half time interval and their plight became even more desperate in the second half when the hosts hit the target for a third time.

To their credit Rangers could have capitulated but instead they went in search of an unlikely route back into the game.

After a neat passage of play in the midfield Greg Douglas played a pinpoint pass that released Dean McCammon and the striker fired the ball clinically past the helpless Celtic keeper.

A Stephen Hendron volley then crashed across the crossbar and Kyle Jennett forced the home keeper into an important save from his dangerous long range shot.

The local side took a very direct route for their second goal of the game. A long clearance was flicked on by McCammon and Greg Douglas jumped higher than the Celtic keeper and sent the ball flying into a gaping net.

The Armagh side’s keeper was kept busy as Rangers searched frantically for an equaliser and made a number of crucial saves to deny Greg Douglas and Jennett.

During an end to end finale a Celtic shot struck the Scarva post and a goal bound Darren Clarke header was cleared off the line just when it looked as if Rangers had rescued a precious point.

Scarva Rangers wish the Armagh Celtic player who suffered a serious looking injury during the match a speedy recovery.
