JOHN WINS MOTO-XTRIPLE CROWN

LOUGHBRICKLAND teenager, John Meara has completed a remarkable achievement, winning the triple crown of Ulster Nutt Travel MX2 Premier Championship, Ulster Ballymac Hotel U21 Premier Championship, and ReTink Irish Premier MX2 Championship in 2012.

This feat is all the more remarkable given that John won these titles despite dislocating a shoulder at the MAXXIS British Championship round at Desertmartin on June 24, the determined youngster riding through the pain to achieve his stretching goals.

The turning point of John’s season was the next weekend at the tough Donemana circuit, where turning up to spectate, he decided to borrow a bike, and some gear, and entered the race at the last minute, he finished the day in the top six, and kept his title hopes alive, and boosted his confidence to finish the season.

The racing in the MX2 Class is the most competitive in Ireland, with the U21 races in particular being the most exciting racing seen all year, but John rode through the pain, sometimes finishing with very little strength left in his arm, but sheer grit, determination, and help from his personal trainer, Philip Martin of Absolute Fitness helped him through, clinching all three titles on the respective last days of their Championships.

John has once again demonstrated that he is one of the brightest stars of the Irish Motocross scene, he topped off 2011 by representing team Ireland at the prestigious Coupe de l’Avenir in Belgium,

Nine months after breaking vertebrae riding in the USA, he is rounding off 2012 by heading to Australia to race in October this year.

John has been supported this year by Tom and Hilda McKervigan of TMC Motocross in Naas with his 250F Honda not letting him down once.

Help from his mum and dad, Breda and Cyril, as well as friends Rees Boal and Carl Dynes, and training by Philip Martin of Absolute Fitness has been invaluable, particularly as younger brother Jason has now joined the adult ranks since April and has added to the family success by winning the Irish Youth Motocross Championship.

John would like to thank all the above for their help and assistance, as he looks forward to a successful 2013.
