Coleraine singer Anthony in ‘See the Music’ event

Madeleine is a Canadian singer/songwriter who was born with a significant hearing loss in both ears and her heart split between the music industry and the Deaf community. She is joining forces with Anthony Toner and Belfast based singer/songwriter Peter McVeigh for this special concert See The Music for their Northern Ireland fans.

Madeleine began the See The Music series of concerts inspired by her strong connections with the Deaf and hard of hearing communities in both Nashville and Toronto. She launched a fundraiser to support the costs of having a sign language interpreter and live captioning to ensure all her friends and supporters were able to enjoy her concerts. To date, See The Music has organised eleven successful shows in the US and Canada, several of which were at Nashville’s famous Bluebird Café. This will be See The Music’s first Northern Ireland concert.

Madeleine says; “My dream is to show the Deaf and hard of hearing communities what I love about music, and to show the music community what I love about sign language and Deaf culture.

“I am very excited to bring See the Music across the pond for our twelfth concert virtually to my home away from home in Northern Ireland which I have been lucky enough to visit several times. My great grandparents Sam and Nora Waddell were residents of Randalstown, Co Antrim until their emigration to Canada in the early 1920s. I grew up hearing stories about how my Gramma Margaret learned to knit at five years old while visiting her grandparents in Northern Ireland.

“My Gramma’s cousin was the late Brian Waddell, founder of the hugely successful Holywood based Waddell Media. I love reconnecting with my cousin Jannine and all of my wonderful relatives when I get the chance to visit Northern Ireland.”

Peter McVeigh says: “I was lucky enough to meet Madeleine when she was over visiting, she was unfortunate enough to attend my 30th birthday. We became great friends and decided to do an online cowrite for what became ‘Last So Long’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgDUufg2sxo it’s been a fan favourite for a few years now. I’m really excited to be part of this online concert with Madeleine I’ve seen the work she’s been doing from afar in places like the Blue Bird Cafe and it’s just amazing to take part in it. Here’s to a night full of songs, stories & laughter.”

Anthony Toner says: “It will be a pleasure to get to share the stage again - albeit virtually - with Madeleine, who has always connected so wonderfully with Northern Ireland audiences and artists on previous visits, and also for the first time with Peter McVeigh, whose work I have admired for many years. More importantly, the captioning offered during this concert will enhance the availability of the event to an often-overlooked section of the community and anything that makes music more accessible and inclusive is something to be celebrated.”

The winner of the 2010 Belfast Nashville Songwriting Competition, Madeleine has written and/or performed with celebrated songwriters from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland including Ben Glover, Anthony Toner, Peter McVeigh, Matt McGinn, Gareth Dunlop and Mick Flannery.
