Cookstown made the long trek to Letterkenny with the aim of keeping their winning streak intact.

Letterkenny is a difficult place to get a result and the Donegal men have shown in the past that they fear no one at home. The Cookies were missing president Mark Wilson who was away with the Irish team in Glasgow.

Letterkenny skip John Quinn’s rink raced into an early lead against the Cookstown rink of McElroy, Brannigan, Vance and McKnight.

The front end of Chris McKnight and Trevor Vance were building good heads for McElroy’s rink, though time and time again the Letterkenny skip played some wonder bowls to send them into a 12-2 lead after 10 ends.

Cookstown knew something had to give in this rink match and eventually started to grind letterkenny down and with 1 end remaining were three down.

Cookstown fought hard though were unable to steal the rink match and picked up a two to lose by one shot.

The rink of the day for Cookstown was skipped by stalwart Liam McHugh with Eric Sands third, William Lennox second and Ashley Wright at lead. With superb front end play from Wright and Lennox throughout this match, and with Sands and McHugh playing great bowls the Letterkenny rink had no answer to the Cookies ruthlessness and McHugh and co raced to a great 32-13 win.

The Cookstown rink skipped by Colin Hogg, Damien McCracken at third, Glenn Booth at second and Mark McCracken at lead also had a great rink win.

This rink match was close for 10 ends with nothing in the score. The Cookies then pulled away and with all in the rink contributing with great bowls the Letterkenny heads dropped and Hoggy rink sailed over the line 25-10 victors.

Last Cookstown rink was skipped by Philip Wallace, Gary Scott at third, Aaron Ward at second and Tommy Johnston at lead. Cookies started well in this match and mid way through the match were five shots ahead.

The Letterkenny rink picked up the pace and with three ends remaining were three shots to the good. Wallace and his rink pulled it back to a winner takes all last end decider with the match poised at 18-18. Cookstown however were unable to sneak the win with the Donegal men gaining to 2 shots to win 20-18.

This was a great result which keeps the Cookies perfect league start intact. Cookstown start their Irish Cup campaign next Saturday with a home match against Comber with a 2 o’clock start.
