A look back at an eventful season for Rathfriland

THERE we go folks - the 2009/10 season is gone already and it seems that no sooner is it over that a new one is already on it's way.

The season just past has been a mixture of fortunes on the pitch with a lot of positive things happening off the pitch.

The relatively early stages of Rangers’ season saw a change of management with their season going right to the wire with survival in Division 1B with a 2–1 away win at Bryansburn Rangers in the last game of the season – an amazing climax to an amazing game.

The Swifts` season was very up and down in the league eventually finishing 10th with a quarter final place in the Foster Cup being their best cup run.

The Colts meanwhile finished sixth in their league just missing the cut for the Newcastle Cup.

The Junior football section of the club has also taken off extremely well under the guidance of Development Officer David Davenport, ably assisted by Coaching Co-Ordinator Mark Bickerstaff with a first trophy in the cabinet going to the U10s who won the Carnbane Cup.

Also on the pitch Rathfriland FC were selected to host one of the international games in the Umbro Quadrangular Football Tournament with a super evening hosting the fixture between the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Off the pitch the extension to the main clubroom was completed and a number of successful fundraising events were held with the now annual John Ingram Memorial Fun Day at the end of the season being the highlight of the off the pitch activities.

The pinnacle of the season though has to be the recent official announcement of the appointment of the experienced Loughgall vice-captain Brian Adair as manager of Rathfriland Rangers for the 2010/11 season.

A new main sponsor has also been announced with The Milestone Service Station linking with Rathfriland FC in superb partnership. A massive thankyou goes to Tom McAvoy of the Milestone and also David Niblock of DN Tyres for his continued sponsorship of the Swifts as well as all the other board sponsors and any other sponsors.

Overall an interesting season just past but the 2010/11 season can hardly come quick enough! They think it`s all over - for this season it is now!
