A positive boost with six point win at Divis

Lurgan hopes for survival took a positive boost on Tuesday when they took a solid 6 point win against fellow strugglers Divis.

The game was finely balanced throughout and a strong finish from the home team was enough to take the points. They led by 2 shots after 5 ends 21-19, and it was all level at the halfway stage, the lead was a solitary shot at the three quarter distance 61-60 a high scoring final quarter of the game saw Lurgan win by 24 shots.

On Rink 1 Ivor Mitchell, Richard McClune, Sam Neill and skip Harry Cosgrove, started strong against Divis building up an 8-3 lead after five ends. The Lurgan rink continued to build on this good start and led 13-5 after ten ends and 18-12 after fifteen ends and looked good for a match point, however the final ends proved to be a downfall as the Divis rink fought back and won the remaining ends to win the rink 22-18

On Rink 2 Bobby Boness, Reece Millar, Pete McGrail and Skip Alan Briggs, struggled to begin with against Divis as they trailed 9-4 and 12-7. A second half fight back saw the Lurgan men take the lead in the 15th end 15-13 and they continued strong to win 22-16.

On Rink 3 Melvyn Hamilton, Ronnie McCullough, Bobby Ruddell and Skip Mansell Montgomery, started slowly as Divis built up a 6-2 lead and extended this lead to 12-5. As they trailed 21-11 at three quarter distance the chances of a rink point looked to be lost, the Lurgan men pulled off a superb comeback taking a single shot in the last end to win by a shot 22-21.

On Rink 4 Gareth Bunting, Davy Millar, Stephen Poots and skip Alan Roberts took control of the game to claim the point winning 29-16.
