A real Page turner at Ballycastle

THE calm weather conditions at Ballycastle over the weekend allowed foR excellent scoring with Michael Page, playing off ten, carding three birdies in a fabulous total of 39 points over sixteen holes to win Saturday's section one competition.

Sean McCormick also recorded 39 points but Michael's 22 point haul on the back nine meant Sean had to settle for second place.

Saturday was also a successful day for the Dowds family with father Gerry scoring 37 points for third place in section one and son Peter, playing off sixteen, picking up birdies at the 6th and 9th holes on his way to a winning total of 39 points in section two.

Aiden Higgins score of 37 points was good for second place behind Peter in section two and Steven Devlin was in third with 36 points.

It also proved to be a memorable day for Tony McNeill on Saturday as he hit a magnificent hole in one at the par three 17th!

Sean McCormick may have been unfortunate not to win Saturday's competition with a score of 39 points but, undeterred, he produced the same total on Sunday and this time was the section one winner by no fewer than five points.

Sean's round included a nice run of birdie at the 17th, birdie at the 18th and then eagle at the 1st to yield a handy thirteen points for those three holes alone.

Second place in section one on Sunday went to Ciaran Mort with 34 points, just ahead of Brian Cunning and in section two, Jonathan McBride won with a score of 35 points ahead of Declan McCarry on the back nine.

Team E now have the lead in the Winter League standings after top scoring in week two with an impressive total of 179 points thanks to contributions from Peter Dowds (39pts), Sean Brogan (37pts), Philip Hewitt (35pts), Patrick Dixon (34pts) and Julian Friers (34pts).

Team L put together another good performance in week two and remain second in the table with last weeks leaders Team H dropping into third.

In the overall individual competition, Chris Kelly leads with a total of 72 points followed by Sean Brogan and David Getty on 71 points. The best six scores from eight will determine the winners of both the overall individual and team individual competitions this year.
