A win and a draw for U9s at Brownstown

BANBRIDGE Town U9s had their last outing pre-Christmas at the Brownstown Development Centre in Portadown, winning their first game against Craigavon City 2-1 and drawing their second game against Portadown Boys 2-2.

In the first game Banbridge started strongly and went a goal ahead in the fifth minute when John Kerr thundered a great long range effort in off the crossabar for a great strike. Daniel McGivern also went on a good run but his shot was saved while Bobby Jones,

Alex Innocenzi and Finn Martin were solid in defence. Kerr then added a second goal when his shot from a tight angle deflected in off a defender to give Town a 2-0 lead.

Harry Annett then had a firm low angled shot well saved by the City keeper while Taylor Hill and Oisin Login also made the keeper work.

City then pulled a goal back but in the last five minutes Toby Jones was fantastic in nets pulling off two super saves in quick succession.

In the second game Banbridge played Portadown Boys with the Portadown team taking the lead early on. Banbridge, as in the first match, continued to try to play good football and were rewarded when Oisin Logan scored a from close range to level the scores at 1-1.

Daniel McGivern went close with two well taken strikes but the Portadown team again took the lead making it 2-1. Toby Joness then pulled off two great saves while Bobby Jones and Alex Innocenzi again tidied up everything at the back.

Finn Martin found himself in an advanced positiona nd was unfortunate not to hit the net with his shot while Harry Annett’s run and shot rebounded off the keeper to Taylor Hill whose follow up shot was also well saved by the Portadown number one Josh Kerr’s industry saw him set up further chances with Oisin Login getting his second with a well taken shot into the corner to level the scores at 2-2 in what was a tight but productive game for the boys.

Overall this was another great outing for the young lads who continue to develop at the IFA Development Centre in Portadown.

Afterwards the boys were rewarded for their season so far when they and the coaches all enjoyed a great afternoon at the Sim Golf Centre in Portadown. A big thank-you to manager Johnny Kerr for organising the event.
