Aaron is all-Ireland cycle champion!

Cyclist Aaron Swan has been crowned the Under 14 Irish Champion at the Youth Championships.

Along with team mate Craig Crawford they are again flying the flag for local cycling and for the talent that Ballymoney Cycling are nurturing and developing.

Not only is Aaron a top rider on the road he also won the Ulster XC championships around Craigavon lakes on Sunday.

On the last weekend of August youth riders from Ulster made the long journey down to Roscommon to compete in the prestigious Irish Youth Championships, which was hosted by Donomon Dynamoes in Roscommon/Castlecoote.

Riders represented their respective clubs in six different age categories from under 11 through to under 16.

Clubs represented from Ulster were: Errigal, Foyle, Banbridge, TSC/BCC Racing, Newry Wheelers, Dromara, North Pole, Emyvale, East Tyrone, Harps, Clann Eireann and Roe Valley.

The riders had to compete in three disciplines, a Time Trial, Road Race, and Criterium. Ulster had excellent success in the under 14s, with TSC/BCC Racing’s Aaron Swan coming 2nd in the time trial to Carrick Wheelers’ Michael O’Loughlin and winning the crit.

Declan Mulholland of Clann Eireann who won the road race, came 3rd in the time trial and came 2nd in the crit.

Newry Wheelers’ Cathal Clarke came 5th in the time trial and an excellent 3rd in the crit. Team mate James Mulligan came 4th in the crit. Banbridge’s Mark Downey won the time trial in the under 15s after posting the fastest time on the day out of all the categories, and he also won the crit in fine style after finishing 3rd in the road race. Team mate Matthew Teggart finished 5th in the crit, while Craig McCauley from Roe Valley came 6th in the road race. TSC/BCC’s Craig Crawford came in 6th in the crit.
