Academy crash out of Schools’ Cup

Grosvenor 22 Banbridge Academy 7

BANBRIDGE Academy produced a very disappointing performance in going down 22-7 to Grosvenor in Saturday’s Schools’ Cup game in Belfast.

The two sides had played out a scoreless draw in the final of Grosvenor’s early season tournament. But on Saturday Academy had to play second fiddle as the home side dominated much of the play.

By half-time Bann were 12-0 in arrears and Grosvenor, with their pack increasingly in control, added two more tries after the break to seal the win.

Michael Runciman’s late try for Academy, converted by Chrissy Craig, offered scant consolation to a squad of players who had offered hope in some of their earlier games this season that a run in the cup was a realistic target.
