Academy girls enjoy Irish success

BANBRIDGE Academy athletes Jemma Jackson and Rebekah Nixon had successful days at the recent Irish Schools Track and Field Championships at Tullamore in Co. Offaly.

Performance of the day went to Jemma who won a bronze medal in Senior Girls’ Javelin with a superb throw of 33.19 metres.

Jemma’s performance is all the more impressive as she has another year left in this age category and is sure to progress even further over the next 12 months.

Rebekah also had a good day finishing 8th in the Junior Girls’ 800m with a time of 2 minutes 28 seconds. While this time is somewhat short of her PB it is still an impressive performance for a Year 9 girl racing against Year 10s, for Rebekah also has another year in the Junior category and this experience will stand her in good stead for future races.

So congratulations to both girls; it was a fantastic achievement to get to the Irish finals and even better for Jemma to come away with a medal.
