Academy suffer defeat in final league game

A BRILLIANT knock of eighty-five by Andrew Magee was not enough to allow Academy First XI to end their season on a high note.

The Junior Cup winners' league form has been erratic, so losing to promotion candidates Cooke Collegians was no great surprise.

Batting first Academy scored 165 in thirty-eight overs, with Magee making the major contribution in an innings that included 10 x 4s and 1 x 6. Gowtham was also in fine form and looked set for a half century until he was forced to retire with a knee injury when he reached 30, while skipper Mark Shields registered 21.

Cooke Collegians raced to a match-winning 167 for 1 in only 20.1 overs, with Naidoo 90 not out and Luke Wilmont 46 not out, while Craig Jackson took the only wicket that fell.

Having won only six of their eighteen fixtures, Academy finished in seventh spot in Division 1 Section 2, and will be playing at the same level again next season.
