Action hots up as several top players move on

With the demise of the Forge, there were a few players who were in demand, none more so than current singles champion Lee Hull, who has now signed for Stephen Warwick’s Bulls Eye team.

The Bulls Eye met Sperrin this week, who were eager to recover from last week’s setback against the Railway Arms. Raymond Stockman’s side made no mistake as wins for Billy Moore and Raymond Stockman set them on their way and despite another sinking for Moore and Lee Caulfield in the doubles, it was Chris Wade who set them back on their way.

Wade is another player who has been snapped up after the Forge’s withdrawal and he demolished Ady Toner on his debut. Caulfield regained some form in his singles with a facile win over Warwick.

At this early stage, there are a couple of the more unfancied outfits who have recorded a couple of wins on the trot. Potters Allstars, under John McIlreavy, have started well. Despite having to go back and finish off the match from week 1 against Social Club due to a rule breach, they made sure of those points as Lee McIlreavy won the vital play off against Willy Fillis.

This week there was no breaking the rules and no need for a play off as they beat Roost 4-2, young McIlreavy once again playing a vital part in the victory, ably assisted by Matthew Steen who was in fine form also.

Bulls Eye Old Boys are another team who are flying high, Keith Hunter once again proving the difference maker as they beat debutants Mary Craigs B 5-1 for a second win on the trot. It was not a great week for Mary Craigs as the A team also fell to a heavy defeat at Mary Pats, who have been strengthened by the signing of Simon Riley for this season and are another team still to taste defeat.

A word also for Seagull Potters who, in Adam Freeburn and Bradley Boreland, have two of the youngest players the league has seen in some time. These two lads are likely to vastly improve for their experience this year, but they already showed what they can do as they combined to win a vita doubles match to seal a 4-2 win over the Village Tavern
