Action-packed day at Aghadowey

ONCE again the sun shone at Aghadowey Stock Car Stadium on Friday as the fourth meeting of the season was held.

The meeting was kindly sponsored by The Brown Trout Golf and Country Inn, 209 Agivey Road, Aghadowey.

Junior Stocks

Last week’s final winner Curtis Greer took a comfortable win in heat 1 ahead of Aaron Brunton and Andrew Gamble in 3rd. In heat 2 again it didn’t take long for Curtis to hit the front and he took the win ahead of Andrew in 2nd and girl racer Shannon Morrow in 3rd.

In the final Curtis’s winning streak came to an end.

Glen White took the lead on the opening lap and having no trouble from the two drivers went on to take the chequered flag. Andrew Gamble finished in 2nd and Drapers town man Aaron Brunton finished in 3rd.

Open Hotrods

Heat 1 saw a new face Thomas Dilly in his immaculate MK1 Escort. He made no mistake by taking the flag ahead of Aghadowey racer Richard Stewart who finished on Dilly’s back bumper.

In heat 2 the tables were turned when Richard Stewart managed to find a way around the MK1 machine and took the win with Thomas Dilly in 2nd and Lindsay Ferry in 3rd.

In the final it was Lindsay Ferry who led the way from pole position and although Richard Stewart caught the 205 machine he could find no way past.

Lindsay Ferry took the win with Richard Stewart in second place, his 3rd podium of the night.

1600 Lightning Rods

Heat 1 saw 18 cars out on the track. Philip Doherty led the field away and made no mistake by staying there and took the win ahead of last week’s final winner Jerome Doherty. Stephan McCahon finished in 3rd.

In heat 2 it was Philip Doherty again who took the lead early on in the race and took another comfortable win ahead of Jerome Doherty with Sammy Stewart in 3rd. On lap 4 Stephan McCahon had a big crash on the home straight.

Thankfully Stephan was ok, but was taken to hospital as a precaution. In the final it was a good battle between Philip Doherty, Jerome Doherty and Sammy Stewart for the lead. Jerome piled on the pressure on the Philip’s machine but could find no way past. Philip Doherty held on and took the win ahead of Jerome Doherty in 2nd and red roof man Sammy Stewart in 3rd.

1600 Bangers

Heat 1 saw a new face Rab Picking out on the track. Lee McCloy and Mark McLaughlin had a good tussle for the lead. Lee McCloy crossed the line first but was docked for jumping the start, so the flag then went to Mark McLaughlin with Lee McCloy in 2nd and Jamieson Tweed in 3rd.

Heat 2 went to Peter Henderson in his Sierra this time as he got the break from the red roof drivers. Mark McLaughlin finished in 2nd and Lee McCloy was 3rd.

The final had to be restarted a few times due to smashes and after Lee McCloy, Ivan Elder and Lee Booth had a coming together on the Brown Trout corner, Mark McLaughlin made no mistakes and took the win ahead of Jamieson Tweed who has been racing well of late and new comer Rab Picking in 3rd.

2L Sierra’s

In heat 1 it was a tight battle between the 2 Percy brothers but it was Campbell who had the upper hand and he took the win ahead of Andrew in 2nd and Dessie Kearney in 3rd.

In heat 2 it was Dessie Kearney who hit the front and the Percy brothers could find no way past. Dessie Kearney took a comfortable win ahead of Campbell Percy and Andrew Percy.

In the final Campbell Percy hit the front and gradually eased ahead of his brother Andrew and Dessie Kearney.

Campbell Percy took his 3rd final win in a row ahead of Dessie Kearney on only his second outing and Andrew Percy in 3rd.
