Action packed weekend ahead for kart racers

THIS incoming weekend is action packed with kart racing action at both Nutts Corner Circuit and Kirkistown.

Saturday sees the 125cc and 250cc Superkarts in action at Kirkistown for their fourth Northern Ireland championship round with all the drivers well fired up after their British championship round at Bishopscourt.

Sunday sees ultra close Ulster Cup action when all seven non gearbox classes will be in action at Nutts Corner Circuit and they too will be all fired up after big local wins recently at the British Championship round at the circuit.

This Sunday's Ulster Karting Club promoted meeting has support from Mulholland Motors of Randalstown and will also be a good test for the reliability of drivers since a week later on Saturday 3 July all the classes will be back at Nutts Corner Circuit for another round of the Ulster Cup.

With two rounds so close together it will be important that all are consistent in their form as equipment failure could put them out of the follow on round if they are unlucky.

The recent Richardson Design supported Ulster Cup round and the Young Racing supported British championship support races have really seen the junior classes impress, in particular the Cadets who supported the British championship rounds in front of an estimated audience of 50 million through European Satellite TV coverage.

Ballymoney's Philip and Chris Doherty have steadily improved all season and when it came to the British championship support meeting the pair were once again on form.

The opening final saw Philip really put in the effort and in the end he moved up four places to finish in sixth. Chris wasn't far off the pace either and moved up five places to move well into the top ten also.

The next final was somewhat tougher on both drivers but overall the pair showed great form and will no doubt be keen to be well inside the top ten again over the next two races.

Racing this Saturday and Sunday gets underway at 10am at both circuits with the first set of heats. Finals will be just after lunch.
