AFC Reserves smashed at title chasing Rectory Rangers Reserves

It was a disappointing weekend for Banbridge AFC Reserves, who were smashed 7-0 at promotion-chasing Rectory Rangers Reserves.

From the start, Rangers put AFC on the back foot but rarely troubled keeper O’Hagan. Although wasteful in front of goal early on, it was no surprise that their pressure would finally tell and on the half hour, an uncontested header found the net.

Five minutes from half time, a needless challenge on the edge of the box resulted in a penalty that was well converted past O’Hagan.

The scoring wasn’t finished for the half as in injury time the home side forward twisted and turned before somehow squeezing a weak shot through a crowd of defenders into the corner of the net. The second half proved no better for the Boys Club, another needless penalty and an uncontested header inside the six yard box making it 5-0. Rangers didn’t stop there and soon added a sixth before capping off the scoring with a superb seventh.

It was an excellent 20-yard free-kick that brought the scoring to an end and left the Boys Club to reflect on another poor performance. The next game for AFC Reserves is an away league game to Lurgan Thistle.
