Alan has the best score at Lisburn Golf Club

Two qualifying competitions were played at Lisburn last Saturday. Alan Crowe (19) had the best score of the day to lead the qualifiers in the Craig Cup for the higher handicaps.

He played steadily on the front nine for 21 points but was only four over par for the more difficult back nine for 24 points.

He finished six points clear of Alan Gilmore (19) and Alan Wallwin (18). Alan Wallwin looked set for a very good score until he finished 6, 4 against Alan Gilmore’s 5, 3 to lose out on count back.

Three competitors finished on 39 points in the McKee Cup for lower handicaps: Stephen Leathem (7), Norman McNellis (3) and Stephen Stewart (9).

Norman went out in 35 for 20 points of the front nine. He went two under par after a birdie four on 14 but dropped stokes on 15 and 17 to finish on level par 72.

Stephen Stewart completed the front nine in 37 for 21 points. He made a poor start to the back nine but recovered to finish with three pars for 18 points.

Stephen Leathem went out in 39 for 18 points. Birdies at 11 and 12 helped him complete the back nine in 37 for 21 points to top his section with Norman second.

Stephen Shaw, David Scott, Colin Hill and Andrew Norrby finished on 38.

Jimmy Bruen

Qualifying

A round of 81 from Chris Budd and Colin Hill at Loughgall helped Lisburn qualify for the match play stages of the Jimmy Bruen Shield. They were 6 over par for the front nine but played better on the shorter back nine.

Mark Jamieson and Stephen Stewart got off to a bad start but a birdie three at the final hole enabled them to finish on 86.

Stephen Leathem and Josh Clarke also improved on the back nine to finish on 88. The final counting score was an 89 from Brian Houston and Ben McCambley while Andrew Parr and Randal Kernaghan had a day to forget with a round of 92.

Lisburn finished second in the group behind Tandragee and now play Dungannon at Loughgall.

Holt Shield

Great finishes from Stewart Campbell and Ian Suffern for halved matches enabled Lisburn to score two points at Edenmore in their first match in this season competition.

1st. Billy Dougherty 41 pts, 2nd. Ian Shane 40 pts, 3rd. Sam Moore 36 pts. Nine holes Tom Scott 18 pts.
