Albert takes Wedlock Trophy

'BEWARE the injured golfer' is an old golf adage but that was the case at Rathmore as Albert Kettyle's back recovered enough to let his golfing prowess show when he won the Gordon Wedlock Trophy with a super 43 points.

Albert (14) was level par gross for the front nine returning a massive 25 points and then held on tight to add 18 points from the back nine. This was six better than the day’s standard scratch.

Three points was his margin over runner-up, Michael Walker who, off a 13 handicap returned 40 points. This included an eagle three at the fourth and a birdie three at the tenth. His back nine of 22 points kept Victor Bow (27) in third spot. Victor had 20 out and 20 in.

J.P. McKnight (10) had four birdies and an eagle coupled with an ugly 9 at 13. His roller-coaster round gave him 39 points and countback kept him clear of Denis Liken who scored steadily to get 39 points.

Drains 2 Go boss, Liam Mullan, drained a putt at the sixth for a birdie two giving him 19 out and, helped by another birdie at 14, scored the same on the way in. Now that Liam has mastered the art of actually signing his card and putting his handicap on it, getting a prize is less of a problem!

The day’s gross prize was taken by Rory Houston who, off 1 handicap, picked up birdies at 4, 10 and 17 to return a score of 71.
