All eyes on NI Pairs

THERE were no league games this week in the Craigavon District Darts League as it was the qualifiers for the NI Pairs.

A total of 22 teams entered all hoping to make all the way to the Emerald Roadhouse in Finaghy with only eight spots available and it was the Eire Og team who were the most successful taking four spots out of the five teams they entered.

The 16 men who will be representing the league are as follows: Sam Frazer/Chris Cinnamond, Mark McLernon/Micky Campbell, Dermy McStay/ Micky Dunwoodie, Niall Heaney/Paul Callaghan, Noel Dunwoodie/Shane Lennon, Marty Craig/Pearse Richardson, Keith Beale/Paul White and Adrian Hutchinson/Tommy McErlene.

On Saturday the Craigavon League Inter Area County team Area 11 travelled to Tandragee to play their final match of the season against Area 9 and came away with a disappointing 6-6 draw. Away day blues set in again for the visitors as a slow start saw them trail 3-0 with each player losing the deciding leg.

Wins for The Premiers duo of John Cinnamond and Dee Blaney helped Area 11 back into it but the next two matches were lost on the deciding leg to leave it 5-2 to Area 9 . Wins in nine of the next ten legs helped the Craigavon based team draw level with Gareth Bunting, Noel Dunwoodie and Stevie Duff all winning with Stevie having the highest Average of the day.

Defeat in the next game left it 6-5 to the hosts but it was Niall Heaney who secured a debut win for Area 11 to earn a point and help them finish their County season with a record of 2 wins 2 draws and 2 defeats.

League action this week returns and with only three league matches remaining every leg played will be vital. Week 14 fixtures are: The Stables will host Drumgor, Clann Eireann will host Celtic, The INF will travel to the Premier and Eire Og are home to the Trojans.
