The 12-year-old Glenravel girl had won the Under 15 girls Northern Ireland & Ulster Cross Country Championships at Gransha Park Londonderry the previous week.

Rachel was running up into the age group and excelled to win the 3000m race by 2 seconds.

On Friday, at Ballymena & Antrim AC Awards dinner Rachel, for the second year in a row, picked up the McClung Trophy for Best Cross County Female in the Club.

Rachel was delighted to receive the award, which fuelled her desire to perform well for the Club at the All Ireland Even Age Group Cross Country Championships in Santry, Dublin on Sunday.

Rachel medalled in 9th place overall in Ireland, and was the first Ulster girl home in what can only be described as a tough race.

She showed guts and determination throughout the race to finish among the medals after the stampede at the start swallowed her up and prevented her from her usual free running style.

The cross country season has started well for the Ballymena Academy pupil who will race again at the All Ireland under 15 Championships in Waterford on December 15, where the race distance will be a testing 3500m.
