Amateurs notch up victory at Dungannon

Dungannon Youth U13s 1

Dromore Amateurs Youth U13s 2

THE Tegral Building Products Dromore Amateurs Youth U13s travelled to scenic Dungannon Park on Saturday to take on Dungannon Youth seeking to reverse the results from their previous meetings.

Dromore started off sprightly and immediately went on the ascendancy, front pair Callum Barnes and Ryan Cunningham keeping the home defence very busy.

After a number of decent chances the pressure told – some excellent passing play finding midfielder Ben Martin drive a low ball across the box to Barnes sneaking in at the back post.

Dromore were putting on a determined display, wing-backs Jack Rice and Kyle Shakesby joining the attacks and causing real problems.

With 10 minutes of the half remaining Martin was upended 25 yards out. Big and impressive defender Robert Gibson stepped forward and slammed a glorious free kick into the top corner putting Dromore two-up.

The second half saw a much-changed and stronger Dungannon take the field and the game became more even, sweeper Stuart Wilson having a busier time of it but showing his class in cutting out several dangerous through balls.

With the match turning into a niggly affair a series of free kicks were awarded in both directions, culminating in a penalty to Dungannon midway through the period. Keeper Neil Herron readied himself for the challenge only to see the home player blast the ball wide.

Chances came at both ends, Dungannon finally managing to convert one after Herron parried a shot only to find an onrushing attacker bundle the ball home.

A nerve-jangling five remaining minutes were played out with Dungannon desperate to equalise and an equally determined Dromore pushing to extend their lead.

Both defences held out and the final whistle came after a further three minutes of stoppage time with Dromore heading back along the M1 with three hard-earned points in the bag.
