American evening for tennis players

AN American evening was the theme of the May heat of Banbridge Tennis Club's popular in-house tournament.

There may not have been an Agassi, Roddick or even Sampras in sight, nevertheless the club members competed with equal enthusiasm and energy.

After many dramatic lobs, the occasional skillful slice and the odd double fault, John Savage emerged as the men's victor, closely followed by Ivan Ewart, while Alison McClune won the ladies' section with Mary Morrow as the runner-up.

The threatening storm clouds never amounted to anything and another great evening was terminated with celebratory hot dogs in the clubhouse.

The next in-house tournament is June 21. Fish and chips is hardly the most healthy choice for supper but we will have earned it by that stage!

On June 26 the Club will be holding its annual tennis-in. Players, junior and senior, will be on court all day and the sponsorship raised will go to Diabetes UK NI.

Soup and sandwiches will be available at lunchtime and a barbeque will be held for all participants and their families in the evening.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Club, call down any Monday evening or check out the website: www.banbridgetennisclub.co.uk. New members are always welcome.
