Anaghlone celebrates 50th anniversary in style

ANAGHLONE Bowling Club celebrated their 50th anniversary in style with a big gala dinner in the Belmont Hotel last Friday night.

They were joined by Glascar, Donaghmore and Dromore N.S. clubs.

Chairman, Billy Maxwell, gave all the bowlers a warm welcome, with over 90 guests and friends in attendance.

Billy had special praise for the club officers over the 50 years, namely Andrew Radcliffe, Samuel Radcliffe, Robin Todd, Stanley Hillis and Billy himself.

He also congratulated Mrs Florence Todd, Mrs Olive Anderson and Alfie Ingram, three founder members who are still playing with the club.

They received special gifts from the chairman’s wife, Brenda Maxwell.

Billy announced that he will be stepping down as the club captain when the new season starts in October, having served for 22 years.

Nadine McKenzie (Glascar), David Shilliday (Donaghmore) and Dromore N.S. congratulated the Anaghlone bowlers on reaching their 50th birthday.

A lovely plaque was presented to Anaghlone by Nadine McKenzie from Glascar Bowling Club and an anniversary cake, specially decorated for Anaghlone by Mrs Shirley Henning, was cut by founder members, Mrs Florence Todd and Mrs Olive Anderson.

Anaghlone Bowling Club would like to thank Glascar, Donaghmore and Dromore N.S. for once again supporting the annual dinner.

Thanks also to Rosemary McBride for purchasing all the prizes for Anaghlone which were excellent for the occasion.

The bowling clubs who attended would like to thank the Belmont Hotel for a lovely dinner which made the evening one to remember.

- The Anaghlone rink of Alfie Ingram, Kyle McBride, Simon McBride and Ian McBride were just beaten by eight shots to seven in the bowls final at Richhill last Saturday by a rink from Mid Tyrone, which included three internationals.
