Andrew powers his way to medal glory

Andrew Richardson, a Year 14 pupil at Coleraine Inst, who trains at Fitness First, participated in the Irish Single Lift Powerlifting Championships in Cork hosted by the Irish Drug Free Powerlifting Association at the weekend.

Andrew achieved three competiton Personal Bests in the Squat, Bench and Deadlift and in the process was awarded Champion Lifter in all three categories for the Under 90Kg section for men aged 18-19.

At the competition, Andrew lifted Squat - 162.5Kg, Bench - 115Kg and Deadlift 242.5Kg. Andrew also attempted the Irish National Deadlift Record of 250.5Kg, but unfortunately, due to a technical fault, it was not counted. He hopes to gain this record in the very near future!

Andrew would like to thank Rory O’Kane from Fitness First for all of his help in preparation for this competition. Andrew’s next event will be the Irish National Championships in Dundalk - which is a combined three lift event - in March 2013. We wish him well for continued future success.
