Andy finishes 12th at XC MTB National Points Series

Sunday 14th April saw the first round of this year’s XC MTB National Points Series (NPS) in Cong, County Mayo, with Andy Bate of Bann Wheelers Cycling Club finishing 12th in Senior 4.

The event was hosted by Cunga Cycling Club a relatively new club on the Irish Cycling scene, only founded in 2011. The course was located in woodland that was once part of the Ashford Castle Estate, a former home to the Guinness family.

Over 200 competitors battled it out in very tough conditions, with heavy overnight rain adding to the excitement along the 6km course. After a good start the conditions started to take their toll with the build-up of mud causing gears to slip and making it impossible to clip into the pedals however once the race was over the smiles were back out on reflection of a tough day at the office and fun in the mud!
