NORTHERN Ireland Open surfkayak champion Andy McClelland has secured a new sponsorship deal ahead of a big year of international competition.

The Portrush man, who is a former Junior World and European champion, has teamed up with local soft drinks company, Aloe Burst.

“Aloe Burst is a Causeway Coast company based in Portrush and was started by a local surfer,” Andy told Times Sport.

“I was approached by the owner, Chris Martin a month ago and he has since signed me up as a full member of the companies sponsored team of local sportsmen. They already sponsor Alive Surf School and work with local big wave surfer Al Mennie.

“I am really happy to become part of the Aloe Burst team and having another sponsor who really wants to support me with my kayak career is amazing, especially when the company is from the same town as me.”

Andy will be hoping to repay his sponsors with a good performance in the British Championships, which will be held in Portrush in September.
