Anna keeps on scoring but Bann Twos beaten

Banbridge Ladies Seconds went down 6-3 to Belfast Harlequins last weekend despite a double from top scorer Anna Waugh.

Banbridge started brightly putting pressure on the Quinns defence and within the first minute of the game Megan was extremely unlucky not to open the scoring.

Play continued with Banbridge creating opportunities up front however the Quinns keeper pulled off some solid saves to deny Bann. Quinns launched a quick counter against the run of play and following a string of saves by keeper Eileen Mitchell, found the goal.

As the half progressed Poppy Robinson, Aileen Lawson and Becky Huey worked tirelessly in midfield to link Banbridge’s defence and forward line until Katie Uprichard found herself on a great solo run down the middle of the pitch. Showing great strength and determination, she hammered the ball past the Quinns keeper.

However, moments after the restart, Quinns defeated the Banbridge defensive line and slipped the ball past the keeper.

The Banbridge defensive of Gaye Campbell, Jessica Hassan, Becky Dale, Rachel Groves and Claire Waring where solid in their tackling unfortunately in the last minute of the first half, Quinns converted a short corner putting them into the lead at the break.

The second half proved even more eventful than the first with Quinns scoring another three, one from a plenalty stroke.

While Banbridge had an answer in the form of two carbon copy goals from top scorer Anna Waugh, this wasn’t enough to over come the fire power of Quinns.

Many thanks to Heather Camblin for umpiring.
